Product Description Sorry to be the one to break this to you, but the truth hurts and there s no use sugarcoating it. Ghosts are real. Demons too, along with those bumps in the night and maybe even the monster under your bed. The world s a scary place. If you re lucky the nasties that creep around in the dark won t get hold of you.
Cept maybe you aren t lucky. Maybe you ve already lost something or somebody to the darkness. All the booze and therapy in the world can t put your life back the way it was. And evil has a way of finding you again once it s had a taste of blood.
So you decide to fight back. It s not gonna be easy as this kind of on-the-job training can get you dead. But you can stop being the hunted and become the hunter. There s no fame or glory in it, and there sure as hell isn t any money. But if you get the job done, you ll save lives and send the bad guys screaming back to hell where they belong. If that sounds good, then you ve got some work to do.
In the Supernatural Role Playing Game you and your friends play hunters from the world of the hit television series. Play characters from the show or use the Cortex System rules to create your own hunter. You ll also find gory details on ghosts, demons, and other nasties for the Game Master to throw your way. All you need to start the hunt is this book, some friends, some dice, and some time to kill...

Good Times! September 14, 2009 Jason Hess (Hampton Roads, VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great Role Playing Game based off an excellent television series. It is true this rulebook does not include a starter scenario. However, Margaret Weis Productions has been kind enough to release a free scenario in the form of a PDF download.

Surprisingly fun September 7, 2009 J. Gorman (Rolling Meadows, IL, USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Love the show, but picked this up as a lark. Thought maybe it'd be a fun read.
I was really surprised how playable the world seemed. As I read the book, ideas for the game just seemed to roll right out of it - like any well written RPG book. Next thing I knew I had more people than I knew what to do with interested in playing the game if I offered to run, all very interested in the material.
If you enjoy the show, or the world it's set in - definitely work checking out.
Decent, but could have been better August 25, 2009 Weylin Stormcrowe 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I just finished reading the core book for Supernatural and felt like posting my views on it. For the record, this is my first review of a game.
Quality: The quality of the product is fantastic. Paper quality and binding are both good. I really enjoyed the look of it...much like John's journal. I do however think some of the pictures were larger than they needed to be and used up space unnecessarily.
System: Well, we are all familiar with the Cortex system. The tweaks in this book do a good job of tuning the system to the setting.
Overall, I like the book.
That said, I do have some issues with it.
1) I do not myself feel that the long list of NPCs was nessary. Stats for a barfly, an evening hook-up, mom and dad are not necessary to me. They are not so much characters as part of the set.
2) Likewise, I feel the list of locations was also longer than it needed to be. I dont see the need for an almost half page write up for a discount store.
I feel both of these are more suited to web-content than being included in the main book. In total they take up 20 single sided pages.
3) I would have like to have seen more creatures than the above information. I have to agree with a reviewer on rpg.net....I don't think the shtriga really has a lot of replay potential. Some of the information is repeated in a few creature write-ups..."dead man's blood" is covered twice in the vampire information (once under the basic and again under "vampires in the game") for two paragraphs each time. Also under exorcism in the demon information there are no system rules for doing an exorcism, nor is it anywhere else in the book.
This also brings up the utter lack of rules for creating your own creatures. So, there is no means of checking balance if you are just assigning abilities to creatures. It may end up being underpowered for your players or it maybe be a total party killer. I know many people who buy this game likely own or could buy the Cortex core book and use those rules, but I really feel this should have been included in the Supernatural Core Book. Perhaps in place of the above mentioned NPC and Location pages.
4) That brings me to the next thing I feel was lacking...information on rituals and amulets. Both are used in various forms by both protagonists and antagonists. Yet information on them is lacking outside of a asset for amulets.
Despite my listed problems, I am happy with game overall. In the end I would give it an overall rating of 3 out of 5. But only a 2 for content...much of it feels like filler material. I don't know if this was because Jamie just wasn't getting support from CW with series information, if it was the pressure of the game already being late or if it was something else. Layout and quality is a solid 5.
