Gameplay

Where most first person shooters rely on relentless action to engage their players, Call of Pripyat goes in an entirely different direction: allowing for long moments of silence amidst a desolate landscape and an ever changing vista. It's the stuff grade-A horror movies are made of. The haunting atmosphere tries the nerves of even the most seasoned gamer. Friendships are only temporary in the Zone, where a bullet that was supposed to protect can become the instrument of death in a matter of split seconds.

Multiplayer modes provide endless enjoyment as players compete against each other individually and in teams to increase their rank and money. Climbing up the ladder is the way to get access to the most devastating weapons. A player's success depends on his proficiency in warfare and his ability to help his team.

I know Great or Good or Fun game when I see one, but this game sucks. The graphics are the best thing about this game. The story is kinda OK, but the gameplay OMG!!. It's hard to tell were you need to go, the gun play is so F'n SAD!. Also 90% of the time, when bleeding out...Band-aids/Health kits don't stop the bleeding WTF!!. So even tho I had like 10 Bandaids, 8 med kits, I still kept die'n from bleeding out. That's the main reason why this game SUCK!!.

4 out of 5 stars Best Stalker Game yet   July 6, 2010

As is denoted in the subject title, this is the best Stalker game yet. One thing that really irritated me, though, was when you went to search a body and their weapon was there also, you picked that up as well without realizing it, then you would have that extra load on even though you might not have wanted it, then you find it later, I ended up picking the weapon up first then searching the body and if I didn't want the weapon, I would transfer it over to the body at the time of search. Even though the maps were large, I wished there were at least one more and also that you could find Sidorovich's bunker that a great majority of the stalkers would talk about when you asked for the location of any tools.

3 out of 5 stars OK...but still not as good as it could have been   June 8, 2010

Stalker CoP was a much better game than Stalker CS was - but still has nothing on the original Shadow of Chernobyl. The graphics are updated - which was nice, but talk about a short game! There are 3 main areas - which honestly don't take that long to complete. The story is only OK, and the voice acting seems like it's been done by about 5 people - this for all the different people you meet in the game. I experienced very, very few bugs which was a nice change from all previous Stalker games.

However, there's a great mod out there - SMRTER (can be found through filefront - or a simple google search) - which added new life to this game for me and had me replaying and searching everywhere for extra goodies. The difficulty was increased, more mutants and more and varied weapons. There are some problems with the mod (it's still in its Alpha stage), but definitely worth the look if you want to breathe new life into CoP!

I gave 3 stars as it was still a decent game as far as games go - but honestly if modders can make the game a better overall experience than the original publishing & development companies - you know, the ones with the money and resources - there's something wrong.

5 out of 5 stars All S.T.A.L.K.E.R games are good   June 6, 2010

This one is no exception, the same "atmosphere" is there that occasionally scares the living crap out of you.
I just finished the game today and really REALLY took my time with it, explored every corner, nook & cranny, finished every side mission etc.
I got it 9 days ago, done today and I have a fully upgraded Exoskeleton & Seva suit, several fully upgraded weapons, G37, Alpine and March pistols, Eliminator shotgun, Lynx Dragunov SVD sniper rifle, FN F2000, and a Gauss Rifle.
I have many Artifacts to switch out in the suits, tons of Ammunition, tons of med kits, plenty of food and just over 208,000 Rubles.

That is playing in Veteran mode, so either this version of Stalker is easier than the other 2 or maybe I am just really used to playing it now.
Either way I found SoC and Clear Sky both to be harder, when I finished those I was damn near as poor as when I started and only managed to scrounge up a couple decent weapons.
I was decked out to the hilt with everything but the Gauss Rifle before I ever set foot in Pripyat.

I liked the overall game interface better in this version and definitely this version plays much better on my fairly dated hardware. (Q6600, 8gigs Ram, GTX8800) I got very playable frame rates with everything but AA maxed in my 22" monitors native res of 1600X1200X32 and the game basically looks the same as the previous 2.
All in all if you liked the previous Stalker games then you will certainly like this one.

5 out of 5 stars The best version yet IMO.   June 5, 2010

As far as the best version yet regarding how it runs straight out of the box? Hands down this version so far is the least buggy of the 3, not needing a slew of patches and mods to get it to run correctly. (Clear Sky was a mess, Shadow was slightly less buggy). This game has only crashed once for me so far, and seems to be the smoothest running version yet. I am running a 2.4 mg, 1.0 gb ram, with an InVidia Geforce 7600GS video card, and have it set at medium resolution. The only thing so far that I don't like is that there isn't a low crouch option which sometimes makes it unrealistic trying to reach things, as well as utilizing cover from incoming fire. Other than that small complaint, it's a homerun!
