| Customer Reviews: Super Fun, Super Replay, Super Cheesetastic! August 5, 2010 Christopher Barrett (Portland, Oregon) There are a few things I have a beef with in this game, but overall it is immensely fun and enjoyable to play through multiple times.
Pros: great Clan setup, interesting item acquisition and bazaar, lots of classes and races to choose, graphics, music quality, replay value, ease of movement with world map, challenging to obey the 'law' and win extra rewards
Cons: thin story, some of the same music from FF12, some battles way too easy, some classes uninteresting while others super strong
This is not like Final Fantasy Tactics other than a similar battle system. This is a more lighthearted and easier game than FFT (PS1).
I can't believe I'm the first person to give this 1 star June 13, 2010 Mark Twain (Sherwood, WI) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love my DS. I love Nintendo. I don't give this 1 star for any other reason than that this game exemplifies what is wrong with gaming. First, I'm an avid gamer. I don't suck at games. Second, I love strategy games. I played Jeanne D' Arc on PSP and it may be my favorite PSP game.
Here's my experience with this game:
I pop it in, I'm excited to play it. I put in my character name (takes a couple minutes) go through five minutes of cut scenes or so, and I'm in the first battle. It puts me up against a boss fight in the first level. I die.
Ahh, gosh darn it. No worries. Where's the continue? I'll just try again? Right? Right? NO! WRONG! Square said to me, you suck at games, and as a result, you must start from the title screen. Ahh gosh darn m f son of a gun!
Title screen, start, enter my name again, I went for "Dude" being my name instead of "the Dude" because it sounded better in the cut scenes. Skip as fast as I can through cut scenes (which you can't skip) and boom, boom, boom...ten minutes later I'm back in the opening BOSS FIGHT. Boss fight. BOSS oh you can't be serious, FIGHT!
I'm good at strategy games. I am! I've played many games like this. I've never played a FF Tactics game, but still.
So I'm on my second time through the boss fight. Yeah, ok, I need to heal these guys more. Fine. I know, I'll have them use potions to heal. Going through the fight, one of my non-main dudes is going to die, I'll pop a potion, no sweat. Go to items...grayed out. Grayed out?! You mean, only the main guy can access items? BOOM, dude dies. What?! Expletive! The other guy, WHICH YOU CAN'T CONTROL then dies, I'm down to two guys...no hope. Okay, I'll just burn down these two minor guys and then kill the main bad guy. I burn down the two minor dudes. Third guy dies. It's just me. I heal. I hit. I heal. I don't get a turn. WHY?! Don't know. Didn't get a turn. I get hit again. I need to heal. I heal. I get hit. I need to heal again. I heal. I get hit again. I hit. I get hit. Oh crud, my health is low, no sweat, I'll heal. No turn. Dude hits me again. I'm dead...AGAIN.
Title screen. No chance to save. I have to start ALL over again. I take the game out of my DS. I, as a 33 year old man with two kids throw the cartridge across the bathroom. I haven't done anything like that in years.
This is just bad game design. The first LEVEL is a BOSS fight that's HARD. No tutorial. No chance to save. You have to keep starting over. This is everything that stinks about games.
AHHHHHHHHH I'll never give it another try.
Huge improvement over the Advance version. June 11, 2010 Billy Adkins (ATX) I love this game but alas my DS was misplaced with it inside and I was unable to finish. This game is a huge improvement over it's GBA predecessor. The law system no longer seems like a unneeded detriment to your gameplay style and the story and graphics are much improved. I recommend this game for any strategy RPG or Final Fantasy fan.
Like other Final Fantasy Tactics Games? If so, BUY THIS!!! June 9, 2010 Alexander Nichols (Podunk, PA USA) My only complaint is that the story is a little sub-par. No real problems with the game itself, which is almost perfect. I played the living crap out of this one. I recommend it, and the series overall, with highest regard.
so far boring April 10, 2010 dadgamer (Iowa City, Iowa) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would say boring game. Not many choices, and the story is old. I have played for about 10 hours, but I am not sure i will finish the game or not. This could be the first Final Fantasy game I cannot complete. But I have already place the cartridge to the box.
If you are looking for a good RPG, I wouldn't recommend this.
