Product Description like new
Editorial Review Long recognized as role-playing games par excellence, the Final Fantasy series gets a technological makeover in this installment (and series debut on the PlayStation). Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limited sound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush 3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-quality music. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, and immense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite an engrossing experience. The story of Final Fantasy VII centers around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete---this reviewer gladly gave up over 80 hours of his life to finish it. But it's definitely a rewarding adventure that every PlayStation owner should consider undertaking, especially since it's now one of the low-priced "Greatest Hits" titles. --Joe Hon Pros: - Intricate and absorbing storyline with endearing characters
- Immense and highly imaginative game world
- Special battle system
- Beautifully animated movie sequences
Cons: - Your friends and family may feel neglected

| Customer Reviews: Possibly the Greatest Game Ever Made! September 5, 2010 Sorteal As usual I'll keep this short and sweet. Final Fantasy VII is right up there with The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess, Diablo II, WoW (not big WoW player anymore but it's hard not to see its place in the greatest games ever made), Super Metroid, Neverwinter Nights 2, Guild Wars, Super Mario Galaxy, and God of War 3 as possibly the greatest game ever made! Yes, that is a long list of games but we're talking about the greatest game ever here and I find it hard to pick just one game as "The Best".
Everything about this game is amazing! The battles are fierce and fun, the character development, both in game and through out the story, is excellent, and the story itself is one of the best the art of gaming has offered up yet!
I won't spoil a single moment of this amazing game for you, all I will say is that this is one of those games that after you see the end credits roll you'll want to start it all over again immediately! Yes, it's that good. There is a reason that Square-Enix made so many spin-offs and a full length feature film based around this game, and that reason is gaming greatness!
Go buy this game now before it's too hard to find!
Final Fantasy 7 Review August 21, 2010 Carly4ever I just recently bought Final Fantasy 7 for Playstation and am very happy with my purchase. This game has an awesome storyline and keeps you wanting more. Some of the graphics are really good and some are bad, but this game was made 10 years ago. The game is long which I like and has many sidequests to keep you entertained. Overall this game is great and I don't regret buying it!
Final Fantasy VII May Be Dated, But It's An Incredible Experience! August 12, 2010 D. Clark Granted, I played this game when it first came out and I was 12 years old, but I'm sure that if YOU are a little open-minded, and have the patience to read every bit of dialogue (as opposed to hearing voice-actors these days, which makes me not want to play anything past Final Fantasy X), you will definately have a rewarding, immersive, personal, unforgettable gaming experience. The story is great, the music is ANGELIC, the Materia system can't be matched, and the side-quests will keep you busy for MONTHS. Final Fantasy VII is one of the most beautiful and pure gaming experiences. I hope many more continue to enjoy it for years to come.
Over 10 years later and still the greatest game of all time? August 5, 2010 Christopher Barrett (Portland, Oregon) Yes! This is still in my opinion the greatest game ever. Though there is a noticeable slowdown on the second disc (which was the last portion to be finished), the game is still nearly flawless.
First: no RPG has been able to top the materia system, even later FF games.
Second: though the sprites are hideous and dated, the backgrounds are gorgeous and still as stunning today as back then.
Third: there has not been as strong of a story and plot in an RPG since. Final Fantasy 10 comes close.
Fourth: The amount of extras such as mini games, the Weapons (monsters), and side quests keep interest even later in the game
Fifth: The musical score is one of the best ever written.
Okay, I could go on, but this is truly a stunning classic PS1 RPG.
Stands the Test of Time July 7, 2010 Jerry Turner I first played Final Fantasy VII when it came out in the '90s. At the time, I thought it was the best Japanese RPG ever created.
Over the years, something happened to my old copy, and - on a whim - I picked up a used copy, wondering if the game would still be enjoyable more than 10 years later.
The answer is unequivocally yes. The story is still compelling (once again, I almost broke down in tears at a certain infamous scene), the gameplay still engaging, and the soundtrack is brilliant.
That is not to say, however, that this game has aged with perfect grace. The graphics take some getting used to after playing current-generation games, and translation errors add some confusion and some unintended humor to the dialog.
Overall, I would recommend this classic game for anyone who remembers it fondly from the '90s, and for fans of Square's other games.
